Inside Coco Northeast After the 2026 Renovation

Coco Northeast is open again after a six-month renovation at 1400 Van Buren Street NE in Minneapolis. The space has been completely reimagined with a new layout, additional private offices, and redesigned and relocated meeting rooms with elevated finishes. The kitchen has doubled in size and is filled with natural light, while new shared work areas include a long work bar and a mix of high-top and low-top seating. The building’s original brick, timber ceilings, and generous natural light remain part of what makes this Northeast location special.

Whether you’re looking for a place to work outside your home, a professional business address, a private office for yourself or your team, or a welcoming space to host clients and meetings, Coco Northeast offers several ways to work. Here’s what’s new and what to know before your next visit.

What changed inside Coco Northeast

The project was much more than a cosmetic refresh. Over approximately six months, we reimagined the layout to better serve the way individuals and small teams work today. The renovation added private offices, relocated and redesigned meeting rooms, expanded the kitchen, and introduced more versatile shared areas. Throughout the project, we kept the exposed brick, timber ceilings and neighborhood views that give Van Buren its character.

More useful space for the workday

Shared coworking areas are available for people who don’t need a dedicated office every day. A private office makes more sense when you regularly take confidential calls, need to leave equipment in place or want your team working together. Meeting rooms give everyone a separate place to gather without asking a whole open workspace to go quiet.

The renovated kitchen has doubled in size and gets more natural light, and the updated coffee bar makes breaks and informal conversations easier. The location also lists high-speed fiber internet, printing, indoor bike storage and a rooftop deck among its amenities. These are the details that matter over a full working week, not just on a tour.

Private offices with room to focus

The private offices are particularly relevant for solo business owners and small teams who want a consistent Minneapolis address without taking on all the work of running their own office. Furnished space, shared amenities and access to bookable meeting rooms are part of the appeal.

If you’re comparing coworking with a private office, start with a simple question: How much of your day needs a door that closes? If the answer is most of it, look at Coco’s private offices. If you’re mostly working independently and enjoy a shared setting, start with coworking memberships. For an occasional change of scenery, day passes may be enough.

Five meeting rooms, with space for six to twelve people

Our members helped name the five meeting rooms, choosing places familiar to Minneapolis: Stone Arch, Grain Belt, Boom Island, St. Anthony and Northrup King. A one-on-one conversation needs a different room from a quarterly planning session.

The capacities above reflect Coco’s current published room descriptions. All meetings include complimentary coffee and water. Our team is also happy to help coordinate additional details, including local food options, so you can focus on the meeting itself. See the meeting rooms and booking options.

The building has always been a place where people work

The Van Buren building has its own story, long before Coco moved in. Built in the early twentieth century, it once housed industrial and commercial businesses, including a printing company and a manufacturer of fabric window treatments. It is part of the warehouse landscape that still gives Northeast Minneapolis much of its character.

In 2007, developer Peter Remes began restoring the property. According to First & First’s account of the project, removing sheetrock and stucco revealed original brick, timber, wide-plank floors and painted signs left by earlier occupants. Those features weren’t manufactured to make an office look historic. They were already here.

Coco opened its Northeast location in 2015, six years after the company began bringing independent workers together in the Twin Cities. The space has changed with its members, but Van Buren remains the same kind of address: a place for people to run businesses and make things happen. There’s more on Coco’s earlier locations and milestones in Coco Through the Years.

A workspace that belongs in Northeast Minneapolis

The neighborhood isn’t incidental to the location. The city-recognized Northeast Minneapolis Arts District grew from the concentration of artists and studios working in old industrial buildings. Nearby, the Northrup King complex went from a seed-company property to one of the area’s best-known centers for working artists.

There’s plenty to explore around Van Buren before or after the workday. Nearby food and beverage options include Centro, Vivir, Ideal Diner, Indeed Brewing and Bauhaus Brew Labs. Together with the neighborhood’s working studios and small businesses, they give Northeast a character that’s hard to replicate in a conventional office district.

Community matters here, but there’s no need to oversell it. People come to Coco to get work done. Over time, the chance to recognize someone at the coffee bar, ask a quick question or meet another local business owner can become part of why they choose to stay. That is the idea behind the Northeast message: “Come for the space, stay for the people.”

Pictures can give you a sense of the renovation, but they can’t tell you whether the office is right for your workday. If you’re considering coworking or a private office in Northeast Minneapolis, book a tour. If your next team meeting is what brought you here, compare the available meeting rooms. Either way, you’ll know what you’re choosing.
